School visits in Cheshire for Road Safety Week

As part of Road Safety Week, ERS Medical visited Delamere Church of England Primary Academy and St Martins Academy with an ambulance with Emergency Care Assistants Darren Woodhams and Geoff Heath.

The visits allowed the children to learn more about the emergency services and provided an insight into what happens in an ambulance during an emergency. Each session started with a tour around the vehicle where we explained how they are used in different situations including when the blue light and emergency sirens are used. The children were then split into groups and took turns to sit on the stretcher and talk to Darren about the equipment on board, while another group would talk to Geoff about other bits of kit such as the oxygen tank. The visits ended with the children taking home colouring sheets and crayons.

Road Safety Week is the UK’s biggest road safety event, coordinated annually by Brake and involves thousands of schools, organisations and communities each year.

Road Safety Week aims to inspire communities to take action on road safety and promote life-saving messages during the Week and beyond. It also provides a focal point for professionals working in road safety to boost awareness and engagement in their work.

Our school visits received great feedback from both schools Loraine Garner, HLTA (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) at Delamere Primary Academy emailed to let us know “The children had an amazing morning and have been full of questions and not stopped talking about their experiences all afternoon.”

Laura Thombs, Teaching Assistant, St Martin’s Academy added “Just a quick message to say a huge thank you for today. I know the children all loved having the ambulance at school and took away so much information. This will continue as we look at ‘keeping ourselves safe’ and ‘people that help us’.”
